National Nuclear Security Administration Plant

The enormous new complex will house the National Nuclear Security Administration and support manufacturing of non-nuclear components for nuclear weapons and refurbishing the existing nuclear arsenal. The three-year project includes approximately 1.2 million square feet of manufacturing space and 400,000 square feet of office space.

The manufacturing areas include:

  • Machining and mechanical assembly
  • Electrical fabrication and assembly
  • Paint and heat-treat processes
  • Chemical research and testing laboratories
  • Physical test cells and laboratories

The system requirements include:

  • 9,000-ton central chilled water plant
  • 130-million BTU/h heating water plant
  • Central air compressors with distribution piping
  • Approximately 200 air-handling units
  • Clean steam humidification systems
  • Process water and industrial waste distribution
  • Industrial waste treatment
  • Process gas distribution including argon, helium, gaseous and liquid nitrogen, carbon dioxide, natural gas, reverse osmosis and deionized water systems
  • High purity gas filters and distribution piping
  • Variable air supply and exhaust systems throughout including laboratories
The facility is scheduled for completion in May 2013
