NCAR Wyoming Supercomputing Center
Cheyenne, WY

U.S. Engineering Company is building this three-story, 173,000-square-foot High Performance Computing Center for the National Center for Atmospheric Research. This leading-edge computing center is so progressive, the computers to occupy the center are not yet designed in order to buy the most current available at project completion.

Researchers will remotely access this supercomputer from their laboratories across the world via the Internet and high-speed fiber optic cables.

The 25,000-square-foot data floor will be served with under-floor air from 96 Fanwall fans, as well as additional cooling directly piped to the supercomputers. The center is designed to be evaporative water-cooled for 99% of the year with a 1,000-ton chiller serving as backup. Hydronic piping systems are significantly oversized and with custom 45-degree nozzle weld fittings to reduce pumping horsepower in order to maximize the target Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE) of less than 1.1.

In order to achieve LEED® Gold, the facility incorporates highly efficient design and construction techniques such as chilled beams, evaporator systems, energy recovery heat pumps, low-flow fixtures, highly efficient pumps, and other sustainable features. At the time it is installed, the NWSC supercomputer is expected to rank among the world's top 25 for speed and will be 90% more energy efficient than the typical supercomputing center.

U.S. Engineering was awarded this project due to our consistent track record of providing high quality projects at a competitive price and never missing a deadline.
